If you want to learn self defense it takes some time to achieve some good skills. The main points are regularity and hard work. Nothing comes easily in this world. At first it is very important that you improve your physical shape. You can't achieve great self defense skills if you have a poor physique. You should start with the simple stuff at first, go to jogging and lift weights. Take it easy at the start, don`t give yourself to much load. Of course you can start at the same time with your self defense trainings. Also start with the easy stuff, how to stand, some simple blocks and kicks etc. Like any other things in this life you have to learn the basics first to become a great master. If you feel that you make progress add some load. It is very important that your progress continues. Also you have to understand that self defense is not something easy. You probably get hurt when you practise. But believe me if you don't quit you will become a good fighter and you will know how to protect yourself.

If you want to start with your trainings I`ll give you a few tips. The first one is about jogging. Find one pair a good running shoes for yourself. If you have not been active in sports for a while please take it easy. Start about 20-30 minutes in 2-3 times a week. Dont shock your body, your self defense skills don´t disappear, they are waiting for you at the end. If you feel you can run more add some time. You have to feel your body, it is very important in self defense. And I`m not talking only about guys, this is for everyone. The basic rules are the same. Some of the women pushes themselves very hard, more than is necessary. There are some difference in women self defense but right now it`s not important. In ideal you run 3-4 times a week about 1- 1,5 hours. If you are capable to do that you are in very good shape.

Why are running is so important in self defense? Because if you are in trouble on the street, the first choice is to run, as fast as you can until you are safe. There is no point to start a fight if you can avoid it. First rule in self defense is "do not fight if you don´t have to".

What about weight training. The same rule, do not start with too heavy loads. The best is when some expert makes for you a training plan. There are many aspects to follow and this is the best solution. But if you still want to try for your own, then I recommend to start making some squats, chest workouts, back, abs etc. Don`t train the same muscles all the time, change exercises for a while. But definitely go to gym, it gives you a great advantage in self defense. If you are strong you can achieve better self defense skills at the end.

Let's get started with some self defense skills. I add some random video about basic stuff so you`ll get some image about it. Definitely you will find there some more good stuff.

The best is when you join with some local self defense or martial art club. It gives you a lot of courage and you learn to deal with physical contact. Probably you will make there some good friends also. But if you want to practise at home you must find some good information. There are so many DVD`s, books and programs about self defense. But you must choose carefully, there are so many junk out there. Many DVD`s and books have no value in real life. Find some good stuff, what you can trust.
